TRACK AND TRACE SOLUTONS: WHY?
The importance of tracking is well known to manufacturing
Industries where they keep track record of making, storing and selling of their
products. The main aim is to know where the given products is at any given point of time. Tracking is the method to know the production output and also to
know potential of income.
Barcode technology is widely used for data collection and
tracking. It can be used in applications such as manufacturing, logistics,
distribution, retail etc.
But there are few products which require more than product
tracking , it can be because of value or warranty of the product. While
manufacturing till supply chain a product goes through many changes and
recording the changes took in every component of a product throughout its life
is called traceability.
Measures for TRACEABILITY
1. RFID technology capture and stores the
data in real time on a tag that goes with the product. Since the RFID is
portable , thus, the information gets captured and stored throughout the entire
events the product goes through, the events can be manufacturing , dispatch,
servicing , repair etc.
RFID is
widely used and best suited for traceability applications. RFID can be supplied
as read only or read/write , does not require
line of sight to be used, it provides high level of data integrity and
can function under a variety of environmental conditions.
RFID tag or label can be attached to anything , from a piece
of equipment to a pile of boxes, carton or the finished product itself.
2. Printed
serialized barcodes labels can be used on products for data collection.
3. Some
products require marks to be inked, etched or stamped onto the product itself
so that it remains readable for the existence of the product.
PERSPECTIVE : TRACEABILITY
1.
The traceability can be monitoring of data
between multiple manufacturers which is known as chain traceability.
2.
The process of monitoring of data within the
process of manufacturing the finished product is called as Internal Traceability.
Traceability is achieved when the information can be traced
forward (i.e from raw material supplier
to consumer ) and backward (i.e from
consumer to raw material supplier).
Trace forward helps in taking effective measure for solving
issues related to defective products.
Trace backward helps taking important measures while
addressing issues in manufacturing
process.
IMPORTANCE OF TRACEABILITY
Now a days the warranty and guarantee of products is
increased by companies and if any unexpected issue occurs and they have to
recall the product and this can be better done with the help of traceability.
The main aim of traceability is “cradle to grave” collection
of information of product. The force behind the growth in traceability are
govt. regulations and the desires of companies to limit risks while increasing
the warranty revenues.
